Elisa Tomas, founder of Melizabeth Food Products, began her journey with only ₱200, a few bananas, and an unyielding spirit. Despite financial struggles, no formal education, and the daily challenges of raising a family in rural Quirino, she turned discarded bananas into banana chips and sold them in nearby communities. Her early days were marked by long hours, unreliable supply due to typhoons, and cooking under a makeshift tent, yet she persevered. Even when faced with unpaid debts and physical exhaustion, Elisa remained determined to build a better life for her family.
Her breakthrough came in 1999 after a chance encounter with DOST led to connections with DTI, opening doors to training, trade fairs, and new customers. Through grit and innovation, she expanded her product line, reached more markets, and transformed her humble operation into a recognized brand. Today, Melizabeth Food Products offers a variety of snacks and has grown beyond local sales to reach international markets. More than a business success, Elisa’s journey empowered not just her family, but also other women in her community, proving that resilience and hard work can create lasting impact.
